Tip: about hostas....and keeping the slugs off them

Here is a wonderful garden tip that involves recycling: if you have hostas rinse out and dry your egg shells, crush them using anything that will break them up (I have a piece of a broom handle and I accumulate the egg shells in a large empty coffee can) and scatter the crushed egg shells around your hostas. Slugs will slit their bellies trying to get to the hosta. Works like a charm. LOL ...no beer wasted.

I just did all my hosta plants tonight.

My problem is that I don't use many eggs and never have enought shells. My grandma always toasted her shells, and siad the calcium was good for her house plants.

I put my egg shells in witht the scraps for the chickens.. and you should see them fight over their own egg shells... and oh if an egg cracks it's survival of the fittest... they scramble to get that yolk...
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you...

My grandma used to soak egg shells in a jar of water and then after a few days she'd use that to water her house plants.

I have bought a huge bag of  diatomaceous earth to use in my flowerbeds this year.  I also plan to use the egg shells, but I think that the earth will spread a little better.

    I HATE slugs!!!!
