    Hibiscus seeds?

I'm trying to find out how to get seeds from our hibiscus plants. I read where they are located on the flower after it blooms and starts drying out. I looked at some of ours that have fallen, but I don't see the "seed". My hibiscuses seem to fall off after a day or two of blooming. Could it be only certain kinds of hibiscues seed, and not others? ... Thank you,., de

    Re: Hibiscus seeds?

Hibiscus seeds are very delicate when it comes to planting them.Hibiscus seeds do not reproduce the parent plant. Your plants will produce seeds, but these seeds will not have the same properties as the parent plant. Here are some web-sites that will help you grow big and healthy hibiscus seeds.

    Re: Hibiscus seeds?

Thank you Robert for responding, and I will definitely look up the info. you provided. The hibiscus in the picture is called Amber Elizabeth, and the parents were Harvest Moon and Charlotte I believe,.... it had the most beautiful flowers.... Unfortunetly we moved and I couldn't take it with us. Where we live now we have hibiscus plants, but none that are as pretty as the one I owned. These also don't have seeds on them.

Dottie thank you for the compliment, it was my pride and joy and I loved taking pics. of it. Maybe one of these days I can find the same one again.

    Re: Hibiscus seeds?

Best chance of obtaining seed hibiscus requires a new pollen that substances in gold dust, and fresh, receptive stigma surveys, allowing the pollen to fertilize ovules in the ovary at the base of flowering. When this happens, the perception might occur. Ideal conditions are 60-80F degrees and high humidity - conditions that are usually ideal for tropical hibiscus be happy. Some breeders have had success in the late afternoon, and some when the temperature was mid 90s.

    Re: Hibiscus seeds?

Wow, Thank you Aaron for the very indepth lesson in pollination! Unfortunately I do not have access to that kind of nursery, wish I did tho. Our pink hibiscus plant that was out in the yard in the corner died from the freeze of last years winter.. The other two... 1 pink and the other orange took a beating as well, but survived and is trying to make a comeback. These hibiscus I speak of are those that were here when we moved to this location 3yrs. ago. The two I just mentioned have been growing amongst the woods out back. Why the previous owner planted them there is anyone's guess.  The double pink one that I posted the picture of was one I bought when we lived in our last home. I have yet to look into finding another like it, but hopefully soon. I do have a small red one that my neighbor gave us before they moved to N.C., so I'm hoping I can keep it growing and be able to take some nice pictures of the flowers, as I love taking pics. of anything of nature..Smile
