    Signs of Spring

The sedums above came up beore I got a chance to remove winter mulch

Tulip (above) fixing to do it's thing

No sure what the purple flowers are.  Someone gave me the bulbs late last fall.

Got lots more signs of spring - roses are putting on new growth, flower almond is starting to flower, onions are coming up in garden, dafs are every where, grape hyc are up, and greenhouse is full of tomatoes, squash, cucs, peppers, etc. waiting for their time to go into the garden.  So ya'll take heart,  spring is coming.

    Re: Signs of Spring

YAY! Spring.  I'm thinking Oklahoma is the place to be today versus here in Maine where it is COLD and there is still snow on the ground.  The only sign of spring so far is the phoebes singing, but I did see some spiders outside a few days ago. They might be history now though because it went subzero again right after that!

(I have some of those same purple flowers.  Got the bulbs from my M-I-L but I don't know what they are called either. I'll ask . She has a ton of them, as they tend to spread.)

    Re: Signs of Spring

I'm so sorry spring hasn't made it to Maine yet, but this summer when we are in a drought, and having 100 degree temps, you will have the last laugh.  I just wish once we would have a little bit cooler summer and wish we would get some rain.

By the way, is your name Brenda too.  Nice to meet you.

Nice to meet you, too.  I haven't met too many other Brendas!  Yes, summer in Maine is usually quite nice, so the cold winter is a trade-off.  We whine when it is hot and muggy then, too... then again you've got cowboys so I'm still leaning in that direction! ;-)

    Re: Signs of Spring

    Brenda,

The purple flowers I could not remember the name of and that look similar to your previous posting are called scilla or Siberian Squill.  It popped into my head this morning while outside willing the snowbank that is covering them to melt....  Anyway, didn't post a photo from google because of copyright, etc., but if you are interested you could check it out.  Have a good day.

    Re: Signs of Spring

Are you sure they are Siberian Squill?  They look just like my Durch Iris.  Mine start blooming in early June for me, but they are in a partially shaded area, so I think that affects the bloom time.  Either way they are so pretty!  Spring has finally sprung for me also.  I came home yesterday to some Winter Aconites blooming.  I should have crocuses before the end of the week.Big Smile

    Re: Signs of Spring

I'm sure mine are Siberian Squill but not sure those in OKfever's pic are the same.  Just couldn't remember what they reminded me of until now so offered it up as a possibility.  Glad you've got things blooming...still waiting for the snow to melt here.

    Re: Signs of Spring

Hi.     I don't think the purple flowers are iris'.  I have them all over the place and this doesn't look like them.  I googled Siberian Squill and I think that's what they are, or were, they are gone now.  The bulbs were planted last fall and it said they would bloom early early spring.

My iris' bloom late May or early June.

Isn't it funny how things come to a person at the oddest times?  I have woke up in the middle of the night and remembered something I had been trying to remember all day. Thanks girls!
